John Zapanta, PT, DPT

Dr. John Zapanta received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Regis University in Denver, Colorado in 2012. He completed an Orthopaedic Physical Therapy Residency program in Scottsdale, AZ. He is board certified in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (OCS) and recently completed a Fellowship through Evidence in Motion specializing in orthopaedic manual physical therapy. Dr. Zapanta’s clinical interests are in the management of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions while integrating a patient-centered hands-on approach to rehabilitation. He has presented his research on Parkinson’s disease at national conferences. He is certified as a LSVT BIG and a PWR!Therapist which are a high intensive whole body amplitude-based training regime for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease as well as other neurological and orthopaedic conditions.
Dr. Zapanta is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), APTA Orthopaedic section, APTA Neurology section, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Therapist (AAOMPT). He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS) since 2008. A life-long member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit colleges and Universities, Dr. Zapanta is distinguished in scholarship, excellence, and service. He is an adjunct faculty member at South College Doctor of Physical Therapy program in Knoxville, TN and lectures around the country on the topic of Manual Therapy Interventions for the Neurologic Patient through the NeuroRecovery Training Institute (NRTI).
Professionally, he is involved with the APTA on the local and national level by serving as the Delegate at Large for the APTA Colorado (2015), a Student Ambassador of Colorado (2011), Government Affairs for the APTA Colorado – student special interest group (2010-2011), and a candidate for Vice President for the National APTA Student Assembly (2011). He was awarded the Doctor of Physical Therapy Excellence in Service Award from Regis University in 2012. Dr. Zapanta’s passions include expanding healthcare access and excelling physical therapy services locally and internationally. He has participated in healthcare mission trips, collaborating and teaching professionals and treating local inhabitants in Peru, Mexico, Tanzania, China and the Dominican Republic. John moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Fort Collins to join Colorado Physical Therapy Specialists in 2013 and is excited to provide a comprehensive, evidence-based, and holistic treatment to enable people to achieve their goals. He enjoys mountain biking, golfing, running, snowboarding, and participating in yoga and mindfulness research.
