How can occupational therapy help you?

Occupational therapy is a healthcare profession that focuses on helping people do all the things that they want and need to do in their daily lives. The overall goal is improving function and safety within meaningful daily activities. Your “occupation” is being able to perform those things that are important and necessary for you in your daily life, which can be different for every individual.

Colorado In Motion has further developed our Neurological Therapy program to include both neuro trained Occupational and Physical Therapists within the Fort Collins and Windsor offices. This allows access to those individuals living across the Northern Colorado area to have a great therapy resource for themselves or their loved ones for comprehensive therapy services.

Our adult neuro trained therapists can evaluate and treat your limitations that result from neurological conditions such as a Stroke, Brain Injury, Concussion, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia and other progressive conditions. Areas that OT can help with include:

  • Activities of daily living, including self-care, work or school related skills, home skills, and community skills
  • Cognitive (thinking) impairments, including problems with memory, attention, or problem-solving
  • Energy conservation and fatigue management
  • Upper-limb sensory, motor, and coordination disorders
  • Visual, vestibular and perceptual impairments that affect your daily tasks
  • Functional Balance while reaching, carrying items or being challenged cognitively

Depending on your needs, interests, and goals, your occupational therapist may focus on restoring lost abilities or teaching you how to use compensation and adaptive equipment with techniques to maximize your engagement in everyday activities and enhance your quality of life.

Can we get both Occupational and Physical therapy you ask? Yes, of course. If appropriate, having both OT and PT can provide an even more comprehensive benefit of therapeutic services. If you have Medicare for insurance, PT and OT have seperate banks of money for therapy services for the calendar year. Within Colorado in Motion, we aim to collaborate and work closely with our colleagues to ensure that you receive the best care possible.
